The Future of PGD in Canada

Share your thoughts on Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD). Assuming that there are no boundaries as to what PGD can detect, to what extent do you think PGD should be permitted? Should there be laws in Canada controlling the use of PGD?

Your comments should be a minimum of 150 words and must be posted before 2 pm, Friday, December 22, 2006.

GATTACA...an experiment

Hi Grade 11ers,

We are trying something new. The three of us wanted to try teaching a unit together, and decided that we would focus on the movie "GATTACA".

We have assigned each of you an article to read (all from the New York Times online). These articles are in some way connected to the movie GATTACA. Each of you will write a test (15 marks) on her/his article on December 18th. Then the fun begins...

Below are the links to your articles. Print out your article so that you can make notes on it and highlight certain parts.

Bonnie Rafaeli, Sharon Freed, & Sheppy Coodin

Article 1: Sterilization Offer to Addicts Reopens Ethics Issue

Article 2: Couples Cull Embryos to Halt Heritage of Cancer

Article 3: As Gene Test Menu Grows, Who Gets to Choose?

Article 4: Unspeakable Conversations (You only need to read the first 5 webpages [out of 11].)
